I rode off the Spirit of Tasmania with a general idea of the direction I needed to travel in to get to Cann River. Sadly the GPS was still dead and I totally stuffed up any chance of a quick exit from the city but did manage to find the Princes Highway and after Dandenong the M1 I was looking for in the first place.
As a result I didn’t get to Cann River until lunchtime so I went back to the Bakery I’d eaten at only two weeks before and had a healthy chicken and lettuce sandwich and a pie.
Then another ride I’d been looking forward to for a while, the Monaro Highway between Cann River and Bombala.
The lower part of this road was almost like being back in Tassie only a lot warmer. Once up into the highlands and between Bombala and Cooma the road opened up but this is a very pretty area to ride in, the Snowy Mountains are great and there’s plenty of bends to make you smile!
I rode straight through Cooma and intended to take the old Cooma Road to Queanbeyan but with no GPS I missed the turnoff and ended up riding past Canberra Airport in traffic and filled up in Queanbeyan about 5pm. Then I turned my attention north onto Sutton Road and then onto the Federal Highway for a transport leg back to Newcastle via Goulburn, the M7, M2 and F3 with a quick stop in Thornleigh for fuel.
I was home by 9.20pm with a little over 1100kms ridden for the day. I was very pleased with the 4 day trip to Tassie that included 3,700kms and two boat rides.
